Brecksville, OH February 04, 2026 --(PR.com)-- Fulton Books author Raimo Perttu, a Finnish immigrant who became fascinated with the Erie canal and its history after moving to Ohio almost five decades ago, has completed his most recent book, “Lock Forty: Volume III: Mary's Plight”: a stirring novel that continues the story of Mary and John, exploring Mary’s emotional struggles as her husband John finds success in his expanding business ventures along the historic Ohio and Erie Canal.

Author Raimo Perttu moved from Finland to the United States and has lived in Ohio for the past forty-nine years with his wife. Together they have two children and five grandchildren. Always a student of history and languages, the author received his undergraduate degree in German and his master’s degree in education/administration, plus his principal’s licensure from kindergarten through twelve from Cleveland State University.

“Volume III of ‘Lock Forty’ brings up Mary’s plight and her emotionally crumbling world although most of the events are presented through John’s struggles in his business,” writes Perttu. “At this point, Mary’s struggle with her emotions becomes apparent through the numerous successes John is experiencing. With his aggressive imagination, John visualizes how a shipping business on the canal could be altered for him to strengthen his financial bottom line. John has found an unusual partner in the travel industry, with whom he is able to collaborate in developing a new form of valley tours in the backcountry of Ohio. Using the beautifully located canal and the river next to it for relaxing overnight tours, they offer these trips to Cleveland’s wealthy dignitaries. This time, Alma, John’s longtime friend and head of the women’s philanthropy club, used John’s tour boat to transport a number of Democratic Party activists to the Akron primary convention. During the return trip to Cleveland, those “industrial powerhouses” were offered a glimpse of ordinary life on the canal, which, in this case, also frequently involved death during these lawless times.”

Published by Fulton Books, Raimo Perttu’s book is the third entry in the author’s “Lock Forty” saga, which is inspired by the author’s longtime fascination with the Ohio and Erie Canal and their history. Expertly paced and character-driven, “Lock Forty: Volume III: Mary’s Plight” is sure to resonate with readers, leaving them spellbound right up until the very end.
