  • Moving beyond conventional steel, Samjung applies materials selected for real-world concrete production conditions—including corrosion, abrasion and repeated vibration—to establish a new approach to steel production board performance.
"Stronger, Smarter, Greener with SAMJUNG".

Steel production boards used in concrete block and paver manufacturing operate under conditions that differ significantly from those of ordinary steel products. Throughout the production process, they are repeatedly subjected to vibration and mechanical loads while remaining exposed to moisture, concrete residue, friction and abrasion over extended periods of operation.

Samjung, a specialized manufacturer of steel production boards, believes that one of the key factors influencing long-term production board performance is not simply the thickness or weight of the steel, but the characteristics of the steel material itself.

Since its establishment in 1992, Samjung has spent more than three decades specializing in production board manufacturing. Over that time, the company has expanded its material portfolio beyond conventional general-purpose steel to include steel grades selected with the specific demands of concrete product manufacturing in mind, including corrosion resistance, wear resistance and mechanical strength.

  • Not All Steel Is Designed for the Same Environment

Different steel grades offer different characteristics in terms of strength, hardness, wear resistance and corrosion resistance.

A production board is more than a simple steel plate. It is a repeatedly used component of a concrete products manufacturing system, operating under demanding conditions over many years. Its surface is continuously exposed to concrete and moisture, while repeated vibration and product handling create ongoing friction and wear.

Based on its analysis of these operating conditions, Samjung has developed a material portfolio ranging from conventional general-purpose steel to specialized grades offering enhanced strength, wear resistance and corrosion resistance. This allows customers to select materials according to the specific conditions of their production environment.

Samjung's conventional steel production board, WowBoard®, for example, can be manufactured not only with general-purpose steel grades but also with high-performance materials such as POSSJ and HS540, selected specifically with the operating conditions of concrete production boards in mind.

  • Material Technology for Corrosion and Wear Resistance

The actual service life of a production board is influenced by multiple factors.

Vibration settings and press pressure of the block-making machine, maintenance practices, factory humidity and moisture, concrete residue, cleaning procedures and storage conditions can all affect the board over years of continuous operation.

Among these factors, surface corrosion and repeated wear are particularly important considerations for steel production boards intended for long-term use.

To address these challenges, Samjung has continuously evaluated high-performance steel grades from Korean steelmakers and applied materials that correspond to the actual operating conditions of concrete product manufacturing.

POSSJ is a steel grade developed with enhanced corrosion resistance in mind. It is designed to provide improved resistance to corrosion compared with conventional general-purpose steel in environments where production boards are repeatedly exposed to moisture and concrete.

HS540, meanwhile, combines higher mechanical strength with enhanced wear resistance, making it suitable for production environments involving repeated friction and vibration.

This material portfolio allows customers to go beyond selecting a production board solely by its dimensions and thickness. Instead, they can select a material based on their actual production environment and operating conditions.

  • Field Knowledge Built Across More Than 100 Countries

Samjung's approach to material technology has not been developed solely around laboratory material properties.

To date, Samjung has built an export and supply track record spanning concrete product manufacturers in more than 100 countries worldwide.

Operating conditions can vary considerably from one country and production facility to another—from hot and humid climates to dry environments and high-output factories where production equipment operates for extended periods.

Drawing on more than 30 years of experience across these diverse markets and production environments, Samjung analyzes each customer's operating conditions and requirements to recommend suitable production board materials and specifications.

A Samjung representative explained:

"A production board may appear to be a simple steel plate, but in an actual production line, it must withstand highly repetitive and demanding conditions. Even when two boards have the same dimensions and thickness, their long-term performance characteristics can differ depending on the material applied."

The representative continued:

"Our approach is not to simply recommend the highest-grade steel available. What matters is understanding the performance required in each production environment and recommending a material suited to those specific conditions."

  • Beyond Steel Processing: Specialized Steel production Board Engineering

For more than three decades, Samjung has specialized in the development and manufacturing of production boards, continuously advancing the entire manufacturing process—from material selection to flatness and residual stress control, precision processing and quality inspection.

Production board performance cannot be determined by a single factor. It begins with selecting the appropriate material, but also requires controlling residual stress within the steel, achieving a high level of flatness, and applying manufacturing processes capable of producing a finished board suited to actual production conditions.

Based on this expertise, Samjung has developed a product portfolio ranging from WowBoard®, its conventional steel production board, to MetaBoard®, its next-generation lightweight steel production board, enabling the company to address different production environments and customer requirements.

Samjung plans to continue working with steelmakers and relevant technical institutions to research materials suitable for production board applications and to translate the performance requirements identified in real-world concrete production environments into further advances in material and manufacturing technology.
